Your body, mind, and spirit orchestrate the synchronistic relationships that determine your experience of well-being. Disturbances (most often felt as physical symptoms) are clues of imbalance within these relationships. Herbal medicine can help you re-establish balance in your physical body.
Chinese medicine qualifies herbs into three categories:
- food-grade herbs (this includes fruits and vegetables in your diet that provide your body with the building material needed to experience optimal health)
- medicinal herbs (this includes herbs that have a specific medical or therapeutic quality and are given to restore balance for a specific period of time, generally 6-8 weeks)
- poisonous/toxic herbs (this includes herbs that are used in an emergency situation to save your life, and when used more frequently create toxicity in the body)
We focus on food-grade and medicinal herbs. Our goal in using medicinal herbs (Herbal Medicine) is to introduce natural substances that can help you re-establish balance within your physical body. For instance, we may recommend that you drink ginger tea if you are experiencing nausea. Or we may recommend you take a Vitamin B Complex during the times you are under extreme stress.
We may also recommend that you use herbal medicines on a more permanent basis when your dietary choices are not bringing in enough nutrients to meet your vitamin and mineral needs until you make dietary changes. Keep in mind that taking herbal supplements will not make up the difference if you eat a “crappy” diet.
At Essential Wellness, we think of Herbal Medicine as any of the following:
- vitamins and minerals
- protein powders
- herbal cleanse products
- natural hormone supplementation
- herbal tinctures, teas and salves
- homeopathic remedies
Your skilled practitioner will help you determined a multi-faceted approach to address the stress that underlies your symptoms. Part of that approach may be a specific herbal supplement; however, it is always your choice to implement any supplement into your health equation.
Some Common Questions We Are Asked
How much do I take?
We encourage you to pay attention to and listen to your body during the time you are taking any herb. Every individual is unique, so you may require different dosage levels than package recommendations. Your practitioner can help you determine what will work best for you.
How do I know if the herb is working?
You may notice immediate improvements in the way you feel, but noticeable improvements are not always experienced right away. However, you should notice improvement the longer you take the herb. If improvement seems minimal, it may mean that you need to implement healthier dietary habits. Remember, herbal supplements cannot make up the different for a highly processed, nutrient-deficient diet.
Will this herbal supplement heal me?
Healing is always an inside job. It is accomplished by your individual life force; the coordination and cooperation of your physical, mental-emotional, and energy systems; and your willingness to take appropriate action steps to support change and improvement.
